The short answer: pocket money, not an income. A JOYT survey of about 10 minutes pays at least 32p, and it takes about 16 of them to reach the £5 cash-out. We can't tell you how many surveys you'll get each month; that depends on demand for your profile, and for many members invitations are infrequent. Here are the numbers so you can decide whether it's worth your time.

What each survey pays
Every invitation shows its reward before you start. These are the minimum rewards on JOYT in the UK; some surveys pay a little more.
| Survey length | You earn at least |
|---|---|
| Up to 5 minutes | 13p |
| 6–9 minutes | 27p |
| 10–13 minutes | 32p |
| 14–20 minutes | 35p |
| 21–23 minutes | 39p |
| 24–25 minutes | 43p |
| 26–27 minutes | 45p |
| 28–30 minutes | 49p |
| 31–35 minutes | 54p |
That works out at roughly £1 to £2 per hour of survey time, and less once you count surveys that end early. Paid surveys aren't a way to earn a living. They're a way to get a little back for opinions you'd share anyway.
Surveys that end early pay nothing
Researchers look for particular people, so many surveys end after a few questions: you're not the profile they need, or they already have enough answers. On JOYT, a survey that ends early pays nothing. When it happens, we look for another survey for you, up to six times. Expect this often; it happens on every survey site, and it's not something you did wrong.
How long until your first £5
You can cash out once your balance reaches £5. As a guide, that's about:
- 16 surveys of 10–13 minutes, or
- 15 surveys of 14–20 minutes, or
- 11 surveys of 28–30 minutes.
Then there's the wait. New rewards stay pending for 28 to 56 days while Cint, which runs JOYT accounts and rewards, checks each survey's quality. So even if you finish 16 surveys this week, your first cash-out may be one to two months away. Members with Priority Status skip the wait; Cint grants it based on how you take part and the quality of your answers.
When you do cash out, you choose PayPal, a gift card, an Amazon voucher or a bank transfer, up to £80 at a time, and your reward link appears straight away.
How to get more surveys
- Complete your profile. The more questions you answer about yourself, the more surveys you'll match.
- Keep it up to date. A new job, a move or a new car changes which studies want you.
- Answer honestly and carefully. Quality checks reward consistent, thoughtful answers, and they're how members earn Priority Status.
- Set how often you hear from us. In your profile you can choose how often you'd like invitations.
Invite a friend
Share your personal link from your account. You earn 1p for every survey your friend completes, up to £5 per friend. It's small, and we'd rather say so than dress it up. How referrals work
Do you pay tax on survey rewards?
For most people, survey rewards fall well inside HMRC's £1,000 trading allowance. If you earn from several side activities, check HMRC's guidance on the trading allowance.
So, is it worth it?
It's worth it if you enjoy giving your opinion, have a few spare minutes here and there, and are happy for the rewards to add up slowly. It isn't worth it if you need reliable money each month; nothing about surveys is reliable.
